How to model a simple chair in Blender 2.8 (with Video) | Blender 2.8 Beginner Tutorial

simple chair modelling in Blender 2.8 beginner
In this tutorial I will show you how to model a simple chair step by step. This tutorial is for those who are new to 3D and Blender 2.8. I hope you will learn so many things from this tutorial. So lets start.

So first open Blender 2.8 and select the default 3D cube. We will modify this cube to make a chair from this. First we have to scale the 3D cube in Z axis. Press S then Z and input 0.2 in your number pad and LEFT CLICK to accept the scale amount.

Now press SHIFT + Z (it will scale the object in other 2 axis - X and Y) then input 1.6 in your number pad. Now it will look something like this (See picture 1).

Now press N it will open the right side bar. You will notice your scale (X = 1.600, Y = 1.600, Z = 0.200) property has changed. Always keep in mind that you should always keep your scale property to 1,1,1 in X,Y,Z. Because it will give you so many problems later. But If you now input 1,1,1 in X,Y and Z property it will cancel all of your scale inputs and make it look like a Default 3D cube. So now we have to apply the scale. Press CTRL + A from your keyboard and choose Scale from the menu. Now look on the Scale property in your N side bar. The scale property of X, Y, Z are changed to 1,1 and 1. So keep in mind that whenever you scale your objects in Object mode you should always apply the scale by pressing CTRL + A

Now select Modelling tab from your menu. You will notice that your workspace area has changed and you object goes into Edit mode. From now on we will do our modelling work in this tab. In Blender 2.8 there is a different workspace for different work like Modelling, Sculpting, UV Editing etc. You can hide the left Tool bar by pressing T in Modelling wordspace.

Now keep in mind 2 things.

EDGE LOOPS

You can insert edge loops by hovering you mouse to the edge ring where you want the edge loops and pressing CTRL + R then scroll your mouse wheel in forward or backward direction to insert more or lesser edge loops. Then accept edge loops with LEFT CLICK or cancel edge loops with RIGHT CLICK.

EXTRUDE

You can extrude vertices, edges or faces by pressing E on your keyboard. Press ALT + E for special extruding.

BEVEL EDGE LOOPS

You can bevel edge loops by pressing CTRL + B after selecting the edge loop. Then scroll your mouse wheel in forward or backward direction to make more or lesser edge loops between the beveled edge loops. You can press SHIFT for smoother beveling.

Now see the below video to learn how to make the chair from start to finish.

Now after modelling the chair press TAB to go into object mode. Now go to your menu and then click on File ➝ (✓) Save to save your project.

So you have modeled the chair. Now create a chair from your imagination and see what you can do. If you face any problem feel free to ask me in the comment.
