Blender 2.79 vs 2.8

blender 2.7 vs 2.8

What's changed in Blender 2.8?

Hello, So blender 2.8 has finally been released. Lots of things changed in this new version. Many of the users don't actually know where many stuffs are gone. So in this topic I am gonna show you where you will find those setting or tools in the new Blender 2.8. So, Lets go.

Remove Doubles in (2.79) vs Merge by distance (2.8)

Remove doubles don't work anymore in Blender 2.8. Previously in 2.79 we select the whole model by pressing A then press W for specials menu. There we can see a option called Remove Doubles. This option then merge all overlapping vertices and make them one.

If we want to use this same technique we have to do something else in blender 2.8. After selecting the whole model by pressing A, press ALT + M this will open merge menu. Form the menu select By Distance. This will work same as Remove doubles in Blender 2.79.

Layers (2.79) vs Collection (2.8)

In Blender 2.79 we see some small boxes in the bottom. This is called Layers. If we press M key this will open Move to Layer menu. Now if we select the other boxes then our model will move to the selected layer (the small boxes). Similarly if we select the small boxes in the bottom of 3d view we can create objects in the deferent layers. But we can only select up to 20 layers because there are only 20 small boxes.

So here collection comes handy in Blender 2.8. After selecting the model press M this will open a new menu called Move to Collection. Select New Collection from there and give a name for your collection and press enter. This will move your objects in the newly created collection. But you will see your model still visible in the 3d view. Now if you want to hide your object from the view you will see a Scene Collection menu in top right side of your window. You will see There are two collections. There is by default a collection where all of your models are and the new one what you have just created. Now press the check mark in the left side of your newly created collection name. This will now hide the model from the viewport.

Smooth Objects

In Blender 2.79 if we need to smooth our meshes we need to go to the Tools tab then select Smooth from there.

In Blender 2.8 select the model then press Right Click. This will open a Object context menu. From there just select Shade Smooth.
