Creating a Glass Material in Blender 2.8 Eevee

Hello blender users today I will show you how you can create a glass material in Blender 2.8 that will work also in Eevee rendering. So lets start.

Step 1 - Add a Sphere

First open Blender. Then press SHIFT + A ➡ Mesh ➡ UV Sphere to create a Sphere in the 3d view port. Then Press G ➡ X and move the sphere with your mouse in a way that the Sphere is placed in front of the Cube.

Shift + A > Mesh > UV Sphere to add sphere

Step 2 - Add New Material

Now go to the Shading Tab and Click on Add New Material.

Step 3 - Change the Principled BSDF node values

Now change some of the values in the Principled BSDF node.
  • Specular 0.5 ➡ 1.0
  • Roughness 0.5 ➡ 0.0
  • Clearcoat 0.0 ➡ 1.0
  • IOR 1.45 ➡ 1.5
  • Transmission 0.0 ➡ 1.0
So now it will look something like this. (See below Image)

Step 4 - Change Render Settings

In the render tab make sure Rendering Engine set to Eevee. Now check on the Screen Space Reflection and from there in the drop down menu  also check Refraction.

Step 5 - Material Settings

Now click on the materials tab and then click on Settings. From there check on the Screen Space Refraction and Subsurface Translucency. And then set the Refraction Depth from 0.0 to 0.1m. Now you will see the Sphere is looking like a glass object. You can see the Cube through the Sphere.

  1. Thank you. When there is more than one glass material, they are not seen through them.
